Project Overview
Lisbon Community School District improvements were guided by a collaborative planning and design process led by Emergent Architecture to support long-term educational, safety, and community goals. Through predesign services and bond referendum support, Emergent worked closely with district leadership and community stakeholders to develop phased additions and renovations that enhance learning environments, expand athletics, and improve campus safety.
The project began with a comprehensive master planning effort that evaluated existing facilities, site circulation, security, and program needs. Emergent facilitated open forum presentations and worked closely with the District’s Facility Committee to develop design options that balanced educational priorities, budget considerations, and long-term flexibility. This transparent approach built community trust and helped secure strong public support for the bond referendum.

From Vision to Reality
Phase One: Bond-Funded Campus Improvements
Phase One of the project included a range of additions and renovations designed to support both academics and extracurricular activities across the district’s two schools, serving approximately 719 students. With a construction cost budget of $8.4 million and a total project budget of $9.2 million, the scope focused on high-impact improvements delivered responsibly and efficiently.
Key elements included a new performing arts auditorium, renovations to existing classroom spaces to enhance learning environments, upgraded mechanical systems with facility-wide cooling, and security improvements. A major priority for the district was the addition of an athletic track. Due to site constraints, the football field and associated facilities were strategically relocated to allow for a modern football complex and a new eight-lane, all-weather track.
This phase was delivered using a traditional Design–Bid–Build method and constructed by Larson Construction. Through close collaboration, Emergent and Larson successfully completed the project on time and within budget.
Phase Two: Continued Investment in Learning and Safety
Following the success of the initial bond project, Lisbon Community School District re-engaged Emergent Architecture to lead Phase Two improvements. This phase focuses on expanding career and technical education opportunities and strengthening building resilience and safety.
Phase Two includes a new career and technical education addition, a tornado-safe room housing two science labs and two classrooms, a weight room addition, mechanical system replacement, renovations to the main lobby, and expanded parking and driveways. The work is being delivered within a $5 million budget and continues the District’s commitment to thoughtful, phased investment.
Project Impact
Together, the two phases reflect a comprehensive approach to facility planning that balances educational priorities, safety, athletics, and community engagement. From early master planning and bond support to ongoing additions and renovations, the Lisbon Community School District project demonstrates how collaboration, transparency, and strong partnerships can deliver lasting value for students, staff, and the broader community.
